What is bleed?
The area outside your printed image. This allow’s the printer to be able to guarantee that your printed piece will (if cut a fraction to the left or right) be finished at the correct finished size.
Image trims and text
All non bleed images and text should be kept at least 3mm from the trim edge to ensure trim tolerances are maintained. (This may be referred to as the ‘Safe Zone’).
Resolution
Images such as photos in your artwork must have a minimum resolution of 300dpi (dots per inch). Images that have a lower resolution may print pixelated or fuzzy.
Images taken from the internet often have a resolution of only 72dpi and will very rarely print well.
Booklet creep
Page creep will occur on booklet jobs. To help with finishing all page numbers, non bleed images and text should be kept at least 10mm from the trims. We advise a 5mm bleed on all booklet jobs.
Colours
Offset printing uses a CMYK colour format (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). The colours on your screen are RGB colours (red, green, blue). Some RGB colours that appear on your screen can not be printed in CMYK, and will look quite different to the final printed product. Keep in mind when viewing PDF/JPEG proof files that colours will differ from the final product. If in doubt, please arrange for a colour proof, which will give you a closer indication of final colours.
Final colour of print runs will vary each time, due to machine calibrations, stocks and other factors that are beyond our control. Print Vision does not guarantee colour matching, should this be a concern for you then please let us know before we proceed with printing your job, and an additional ‘colour matching’ fee will apply to colour match your job as closely as is possible.
Fonts
Fonts in your artwork need to be “converted to outlines/curves” or “flattened” into a graphic. This will eliminate the chance of fonts not displaying correctly and not printing the way you intended. If you are unable to embed or flatten your fronts, please supply the TTF font file along with your file. This way, we are able to install the font before opening your artwork, and all details will be correct. If we are missing a font, our software may replace your font with an alternative, and your artwork may move around and look quite different.
If in doubt, always supply a printed proof!
